A sandwich is a food typically consisting of vegetables, sliced cheese or meat, placed on or between slices of bread, or more generally any dish wherein bread serves as a container or wrapper for another food type. .The sandwich began as a portable, convenient finger food in the Western world, though over time it has become prevalent worldwide.


Sandwiches are a common type of lunch food often eaten as part of a packed lunch. There are many types of sandwiches, made from a diverse variety of ingredients. The sandwich is the namesake of John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich, a British statesman. Sandwiches can also have notable cultural impact.

The baguette was introduced to Vietnam by the French in the mid-19th century, during the Nguyễn dynasty, and became a staple food by the early 20th century. In the 1950s, a distinctly Vietnamese style of sandwich developed in Saigon, becoming a popular street food, also known as bánh mì Sài Gòn ('Saigon sandwich' or 'Saigon-style bánh mì'). Following the Vietnam War, overseas Vietnamese popularized the bánh mì sandwich in countries such as Australia, Canada and the United States. In these countries, they are commonly sold in Asian bakeries.


Chacarero is a Chilean sandwich made with thinly sliced churrasco-style steak or lomito-style pork on a round roll with tomatoes, green beans, and optionally ají verde pepper.


The Chimichurri burger (usually called chimi burger, Dominican burger, or simply chimi) is a traditional snack dish (sandwich) served in the Dominican Republic.

It is made from ground pork or beef, which is sliced, grilled and served on a pan de agua (literally "water bread") and garnished with chopped cabbage. Salsa golf is also added. This dish is made throughout the Dominican Republic and is usually sold on street stands.Each vendor has their own recipe; flavors and ingredients can substantially vary the texture and taste of the chimichurris.


A club sandwich, also called a clubhouse sandwich, is a sandwich consisting of bread (traditionally toasted), sliced cooked poultry, fried bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise.[It is often cut into quarters or halves and held together by cocktail sticks. Modern versions frequently have two layers which are separated by an additional slice of bread.


A croque monsieur is a hot sandwich made with ham and cheese. The name comes from the French words croque ("crunch") and monsieur ("gentleman").


The peanut butter and banana sandwich (PB&B), or peanut butter, banana and bacon sandwich (PB,B&B), sometimes referred to as an Elvis sandwich, the Velvet Elvis, or simply the Elvis, is a sandwich with toasted bread, peanut butter, sliced or mashed banana, and occasionally bacon. Honey or jelly is seen in some variations of the sandwich. The sandwich is frequently cooked in a pan or on a griddle.
